33 CORRIDOR
FIBER COLLABORATIVE

Recognizing the need for “anywhere and everywhere” connectivity, the 33 Corridor Fiber Collaborative is designed to offer multiple options for high-speed and redundant fiber-optic service for users that require the movement of large amounts of data across multiple platforms.

The installation of a 35-mile, 432 strand fiber network along US-33 and Industrial Parkway (forming a redundant loop) was completed in 2020. This fiber network allows automotive testing, R&D, and manufacturing facilities to test smart transportation and autonomous vehicle technologies on US-33, a highway that carries up to 50,000 vehicles per day. The fiber network instantaneously links researchers and traffic monitors with data generated from embedded wireless sensors along the highway. The sensors provide more frequent and accurate traffic counts, weather and surface condition monitoring, and incident management improvements.
